The Dance / Fitness Classes

CLASSICAL BALLET

Ballet serves as a backbone for many other styles of dance, as many other dance genres are based on ballet. Ballet is based on techniques that have been developed over centuries. Ballet uses music and dance to tell stories. Ballet dancers have the ability to transport an audience to another world.

MODERN DANCE

Modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings. Modern dance was created as a rebellion against classical ballet, emphasizing creativity in choreography and performance. It encourages dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. Modern dancers favored a more relaxed, free style of dancing. Another characteristic of modern dance in opposition to ballet is the deliberate use of gravity. Whereas classical ballet dancers strive to be light and airy on their feet, modern dancers often use their body weight to enhance movement. This type of dancer rejects the classical ballet stance of an upright, erect body, often opting instead for deliberate falls to the floor.

K-POP

K-pop or Korean pop refers not only to the types of music but to a musical movement that swept the entire world and continues to dominate. Three distinctive parts of K-pop remains imprinted in everyone's mind - the tune, chorus, and signature dance move. Whether it is the hard hitting popping or the sensual swaying of hips, the meticulous choreography of K-pop has given an extra dimension to it's unique character and infectious charm.

Dance is popular all over the world. People enjoy expressing themselves through movemet. The word "dance" conjures up different images for different people. Over the years, dance has evolved into several distinct forms. Different styles of dance are distinguished by many things such as shoes, music, and costumes.

HIP-HOP DANCE

Hip-hop is a dance style, usually danced to hip-hop music that evolved from the hip-hop culture. Hip-hop includes various moves such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping, and even house dance. The first dance associated with hip-hop was breakdancing. While breakdancing consists primarily of moves executed close to the ground, the majority of hip-hop moves are done standing up. Hip-hop is a very energetic form of dancing. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. Improvisation and personal interpretation are essential to hip-hop dancing.

STREET JAZZ DANCE

HOUSE DANCE

House dance is a social dance primarily danced to house music that has roots in the clubs of Chicago and of New York. The main elements of House dance include "Footwork", "Jacking", and "Lofting". House dance is often improvised and emphasizes fast and complex foot-oriented steps combined with fluid movements in the torso, as well as floor work.

LOCKING DANCE

Locking is a style of funk dance, which is today also associated with hip hop. The name is based on the concept of locking movements, which basically means freezing from a fast movement and "locking" in a certain position, holding that position for a short while and then continuing in the same speed as before. It relies on fast and distinct arm and hand movements combined with more relaxed hips and legs. The movements are generally large and exaggerated, and often very rhythmic and tightly synced with the music. Locking includes quite a lot of acrobatics and physically demanding moves, such as landing on one's knees and the split. These moves often require knee protection of some sort.

WAACKING DANCE

Waack/Punk is a form of dance created in the clubs of Los Angeles, originating from the 1970s disco era in Los Angeles. Waacking consists of moving the arms to the music beat, typically in a movement of the arms over and behind the shoulder. Waacking also contains other elements such as posing and footwork. Waacking puts a strong emphasis on musicality and interpretation of the music and its rhythm.

LATIN DANCE

Compared to other ballroom dances, Latin dances are generally faster-paced, more sensual, and have more rhythmic expression. Quick paced rhythms and playful movements make the various Latin dances endlessly entertaining, sometimes even breathtaking. International Latin consists of the following 5 dances: Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Noble and Jive.
